A shorter family-friendly hike leads to this small green-hued lake named Bertha May by early settler Peter Hershey for his 2 daughters. This lake can provide good fishing for medium size Rainbow Trout. Well established campsites are available and a large log "dock" offers expanded shore fishing for the sure-footed angler.
Getting here:
From Ashford on Hwy 706, drive ~2.4m east & turn right on Kernahan/Skate Creek Rd. In ~4.6m turn right on FS#84 and then in another 1.2m take FS#8410 - continue another 3.9m to trailhead #251. note: last portion of the road is badly washed out and negotiable for high clearance 4wd only - most should plan on parking lower down. Hike 1/4 mile to Pothole lake then another 1/2 mile uphill to Bertha May - 400' gain.
