Greenwood

This lake is located southwest of Mount Rainier National Park. Since there is a fairly easy 2.5 mile formal trail to the lake with excellent views of Mt Rainier, it is popular. There is an abundance of 7 to 8 inch Eastern Brook Trout in this lake, perfect for pan frying. There are also several camp sites.

Getting here:

From the town of Elbe on Highway 706, drive east towards the entrance to Mt Rainier. 2.3 miles east of the town of Ashford, turn right onto Kernahan Road. This paved road goes due south for 1.4 miles to a junction. Turn right onto Forest Service Road 52. Follow FS road 52 for 3.3 miles and then turn right on Forest Service Road 84. Stay on FS road 84 for 6.8 miles to a junction, ignoring all side roads along the way. At the junction, stay to your right so that you end up on FS road 8440, which goes up 2.6 miles to Towhead Gap. Park here.

There are 2 trailheads from Towhead Gap. The most obvious one goes north to High Rock Lookout (Great views). There is also a less obvious trailhead going south to Greenwood Lake. Hike the formal trail to Greenwood Lake. It is about 2.5 miles with about 1200 feet of elevation gain and about 1000 feet of loss to the lake. There are great views of Mt Rainier and mountain flowers along the trail.
