Sitting at the top of the Tunnel Creek connection trail #1061 on the Pacific Crest Trail is scenic Hope Lake. Although the trail is steep, the 1.5 mile approach is family friendly and a good option for anglers with kids looking for a fishing opportunity. Eastern Brook Trout stocked by Harry Hamada in 1937 are naturally reproducing and sustaining in these waters and provide a great angling opportunity.

There are several large established campsites around the lake and although there are established fire rings, campfires are prohibited. Please obey these regulations and use stoves for cooking. This area can be very buggy until late season. Head nets and protective clothing are desirable until the first cold nights knock down the insects.>

Beautiful Trap Lake is just 3 miles south on the Pacific Crest Trail for more angling and camping opportunities.

Getting here:

Drive US 2 east to 12 miles east of Skykomish. Turn right onto Forest Road 6095 located just after crossing the Tunnel Creek Bridge at the end of the hairpin turn. (If you're coming from the east, a barrier makes it impossible to turn left onto FR 6095.) Follow FR 6095 for 1.2 miles (avoiding side roads) to a Y intersection. Bear left, coming to the trailhead in 0.1 mile (elev. 3100 ft). USFS parking pass required. No restroom.

Rainbow trout

Fishing success for Rainbow Trout is generally best in the spring when thousands of fish are stocked statewide, but they can be caught year-round in most waters with a little patience and persistence. Success remains high into June and gradually declines as water temperatures increase and fish move offshore to stay cool. Fish that escaped the spring harvest return to the nearshore areas in the fall as waters cool off. Some waters may also be stocked again in the fall further boosting catch rates.
