Bayley Lake

Ten miles north-northeast of Chewelah in the Little Pend Oreille Wildlife Refuge. Fly-fishing and catch-and-release only.  No retention of fish is allowed.  Rainbow trout are stocked, and Eastern Brook Trout may be available from spawning in the inlet creek. The inlet stream is closed to all fishing.

The public access has a boat launch, but motorized boats are prohibited. Call Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge headquarters in Colville at (509) 684-8384 for the current lake level and fishing details. Learn more at the Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge website.

Fishing prospects calendar

Rainbow trout

Fishing success for Rainbow Trout is generally best in the spring when thousands of fish are stocked statewide, but they can be caught year-round in most waters with a little patience and persistence. Success remains high into June and gradually declines as water temperatures increase and fish move offshore to stay cool. Fish that escaped the spring harvest return to the nearshore areas in the fall as waters cool off. Some waters may also be stocked again in the fall further boosting catch rates.
