Upper Wheeler Reservoir

This manmade reservoir is located about eight miles south of Wenatchee. Access is south off of Stemilt Loop Road on Orr Creek Road and a network of Green Dot roads.  The reservoir is utilized as irrigation storage and is operated by the Wenatchee Heights Reclamation District. Fly-fishing and catch-and-release only.  No retention of fish is allowed.  Fingerling Rainbow Trout and Triploid Eastern Brook Trout are planted every spring and have been providing good to excellent fishing during the entire season.  Naturally reproducing Brook Trout are also present with most being relatively small in size.

Important note:  The road is gated by the Wenatchee Heights Reclamation District just before reaching the reservoir, thus only walk-in access is allowed from that point.  Also, be aware that ice may still be present during the early part of the season and the water level may be very low later in the season.

Two-pole fishing is NOT allowed

Fishing prospects calendar

Rainbow trout

Fishing success for Rainbow Trout is generally best in the spring when thousands of fish are stocked statewide, but they can be caught year-round in most waters with a little patience and persistence. Success remains high into June and gradually declines as water temperatures increase and fish move offshore to stay cool. Fish that escaped the spring harvest return to the nearshore areas in the fall as waters cool off. Some waters may also be stocked again in the fall further boosting catch rates.
