Adult chinook daily limit increased
on the lower Columbia River

Action: Up to two adult Chinook may be retained as part of the salmon daily limit on the mainstem Columbia River upstream from the mouth of the Lewis River to Bonneville Dam.

Effective dates: Sept. 25 through Dec. 31, 2008

Species affected: Chinook salmon

Location: The mainstem Columbia River from a line projected from a boundary marker on the lower end of Bachelor Island across to the Warrior Rock Lighthouse upstream to Bonneville Dam.

Other Information: Daily limit is 6 salmon of which no more than 2 may be adults. Any Chinook, fin clipped or not, may be retained. Release wild coho, sockeye, and chum. Beacon Rock to Bonneville Dam is closed to fishing for salmon beginning November 1.

The mainstem Columbia River from a line projected from a boundary marker on the lower end of Bachelor Island across to the Warrior Rock Lighthouse downstream to the Rocky Point Tongue Point line will remain open for hatchery coho and hatchery steelhead but remains closed for all Chinook (adults and jacks). Buoy 10 remains closed to fishing for salmon and steelhead until further notice.

Reason for action: The Upriver Bright run size has been upgraded resulting in increased harvestable numbers of Chinook available under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) guidelines.
