Adult chinook may be retained on the Elochoman River

August 29, 2008

Action: Anglers may keep two adult Chinook as part of their salmon daily limit.

Species affected: Chinook salmon

Effective dates by location:

From the mouth to the Hwy. 4 Bridge: Sept. 1 - Dec. 31, 2008.

From the Hwy. 4 Bridge upstream to the West Fork: Sept. 1 - Sept. 30, 2008

Reason for action: Under the recently developed Conservation and Sustainable Fishery Management Plan, fall Chinook will no longer be released into the Elochoman as a measure to provide a sanctuary for wild fish. Returning Chinook are available for harvest this fall.

Other information: The salmon daily limit is 6 fish of which 4 may be adults, except only two of the adults may be Chinook. Any adult Chinook, fin clipped or not, may be retained; however wild Chinook jacks must be released.

Effective October 1 adult Chinook must be released from the Hwy. 4 Bridge upstream.

Wild coho and chum must be released. Minimum size is 12 inches. Closed waters, night closures, non-buoyant lure and stationary gear restrictions, and opportunities for other salmon species remain the same as listed in the 2008/2009 Fishing in Washington pamphlet.
