All spring Chinook must be released on the
lower Cowlitz River

Action: Cowlitz River anglers must release all spring Chinook beginning Saturday May 17.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Effective dates by location: Effective May 17 through July 31 from boundary markers at the mouth to Mayfield Dam.

Reason for action: Through May 13, just 117 hatchery adult spring Chinook had returned to the salmon hatchery. The hatchery brood stock goal is a minimum of 1,150 fish.

Other information: Creel sampling surveys have shown light catches and no evidence of large numbers of fish holding in the river. Hatchery returns will continue to be closely monitored.
