Amends fishing closure dates for a portion of the Skagit River

October 8, 2018

Action: Amends the closure dates this week for the recreational fishery on a portion of the Skagit River. The sport fishery will be open Oct. 9 and will be closed to all fishing Oct. 10 and 11.

Effective date: Oct. 9-11, 2018.

Species affected: All species.

Location: Skagit River from the mouth to 200’ upstream of the mouth of the Baker River.

Reason for action: The treaty Indian fishery has been re-scheduled for Oct. 10 and 11. This rule is needed to avoid gear conflicts with treaty Indian fisheries.

Additional information: Fisheries in the Skagit River upstream of a line 200' above the confluence of the Baker River will remain open as listed in the Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet.

Anglers are reminded to respect tribal fishers and to not interfere with tribal fisheries. Conflicts that arise during on-going fisheries may necessitate additional time and area closures in the future to reduce conflicts.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on definitions and regulations.
