Areas of the White Salmon River to open for
steelhead fishing with selective gear rules

Action: White Salmon River to reopen to steelhead fishing from the county road bridge below the former powerhouse to Northwestern Lake Road Bridge.

Species affected: Steelhead.

Effective dates: Jan. 5, 2013 until further notice.

Location: White Salmon River, Klickitat and Skamania Counties.

Reason for action: Condit Dam on the White Salmon River was breached in the fall of 2011. There has been a closure to fishing in this area above and below the dam due to safety concerns while the structure was being removed. The area has been reopened for public access now that the work is complete.

Other information: The White Salmon River has returning harvestable hatchery steelhead, both winter and summer run available for sport harvest. The area of the closure has historically been a popular fishing area.

The daily limit is two hatchery steelhead. All other species, including salmon, must be released.

This is consistent with regulations proposed for the 2013-14 pamphlet.
