Bait restrictions removed from Cascade River salmon fishery

November 10, 2022

Action: Allows use of bait.

Location: Cascade River from mouth to Rockport-Cascade Road bridge.

Effective date: Nov. 12 through Nov. 30, 2022.

Species affected: Salmon.

Salmon rules: Open 7 days per week. Min. size 12”. Daily limit 4 coho. Release all other species. Use of bait is allowed. Anti-snagging rule and night closure in effect.

Reason for action: Recent spawning ground surveys indicate Chinook spawning activities have concluded, with very few live Chinook still present in the system. Bait restrictions previously in place to protect returning Chinook are no longer necessary.

Additional information: Fisheries are actively monitored by WDFW. Anglers are asked to cooperate with creel personnel collecting catch information. Monitoring and evaluation of fisheries is an important part of ensuring we are meeting our conservation goals for salmon.

In-season closure, reopening, or other management actions will be announced as soon as possible. Please consider downloading the FishWA app or signing up for fishery change notifications by email at https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/lists.
