closure extended until Aug. 1


Actions: Extends closure for Blackbird Island Pond.

Effective date: Immediately through July 31, 2010

Species affected: All game fish

Location: Adjacent to the Wenatchee River, on the city of Leavenworth’s Blackbird Island

Reason for Action: Due to an unseasonably cool spring all juvenile steelhead are not expected to exit Blackbird Island Pond until approximately the last week in July.

Other Information: Blackbird Island Pond has been reconstructed for use as both a hatchery steelhead acclimation pond and juvenile angler’s pond. From mid March until August 1 the pond will be used for steelhead acclimation. After all steelhead have left the pond WDFW will stock trout to provide angling opportunity for juvenile anglers (less than 15 years of age) only.
