Blackbird Island Pond (Chelan Co.)
will not open until July 15

Actions: Closes Blackbird Island Pond until July 15, 2010.

Effective date: July 1 through July 14, 2010.

Species affected: All game fish

Location: Adjacent to the Wenatchee River, on the city of Leavenworth’s Blackbird Island.

Reason for Action: Due to an unseasonably cool spring, all juvenile steelhead are not expected to exit the pond until approximately mid July. Consequently, trout will not be stocked and the pond will remain closed to fishing until July 15, 2010.

Other information: Blackbird Island Pond has been reconstructed for use as both a hatchery steelhead acclimation pond and juvenile angler’s pond. From mid March until late June, the pond was used for steelhead acclimation. After all steelhead have left the pond Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will stock trout to provide angling opportunity for juvenile anglers (under 15 years of age) only.
