October 11, 2024
Action: Extends coho season and rules.
Location: Cascade River (Skagit County) from mouth to Rockport-Cascade Road Bridge.
Effective date: Immediately through Nov. 30, 2024
Species affected: Salmon.
Rules: Salmon daily limit four coho. Minimum length 12 inches. Release all salmon other than coho. Night closure and anti-snagging rule in effect.
Reason for action: The coho return is greater than forecast and allows for the recreational coho season extension. The Cascade River salmon season extension is shorter than the Skagit extension because most Marblemount Hatchery coho have returned by this date.
Additional information: This extended opportunity only applies to coho salmon. All other salmon species must be released.
Anglers are reminded to avoid fishing in areas with staged or spawning chum, or late returning Chinook, to reduce incidental catches and reduce stress on spawners. Anglers are asked to cooperate with creel personnel collecting catch information. Monitoring and evaluation of fisheries is an important part of ensuring we are meeting our conservation goals for salmon.
