Cascade River to open seven days per week for hatchery spring Chinook

June 26, 2024

Action: Opens a portion of the Cascade River to fishing for hatchery spring Chinook seven days per week.

Effective date: Immediately, through July 15, 2024.

Species affected: All species.

Location: Cascade River (Skagit County) from mouth to Rockport-Cascade Road Bridge.

Rule: Open daily. Daily limit four hatchery Chinook including no more than two adult hatchery Chinook. Minimum size 12 inches. Night closure and anti-snagging rule in effect.

Reason for action:  Treaty fisheries for hatchery spring Chinook in this section of the Cascade have concluded for the season. Sunday through Tuesday closures to avoid gear conflicts are no longer necessary. The ongoing Skagit system sport fisheries are still within conservation objectives for wild spring Chinook encounters.

Additional information: Anglers are asked to cooperate with creel personnel collecting catch information. Monitoring and evaluation of fisheries is an important part of ensuring we are meeting our conservation goals for salmon. The June 1-30 portion of this fishery was opened under emergency regulation, and the July 1-15 period of this fishery is listed in the 2024-2025 Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet
