Chinook harvest closes in Marine Area 9

August 2, 2013

Action: Closes harvest of hatchery chinook in Area 9, except at Edmonds Fishing Pier.

Effective Date: Effective 12:01 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, through 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet), except Edmonds Fishing Pier.

Reason for action: Preliminary estimates indicate that encounters with legal size hatchery and wild (unmarked) chinook will exceed the preseason expectations. The chinook fishery is being closed to control impacts on stocks of concern and ensure compliance with conservation objectives and agreed-to management plans.

Other information: Daily limit remains at 2 salmon plus 2 additional pink. Release chinook and chum. Anglers should consult the Fishing in Washington, Sports Fishing Rules pamphlet for specific regulations for the Edmonds Fishing Pier and the closure south of a line from Foulweather Bluff to Olele Point.
