Chinook retention closes after July 31 in Marine Area 9

August 1, 2007

Action: Closes retention of hatchery Chinook in Area 9, except at the Edmonds Fishing Pier. Re-opens the area south of a line from Foulweather Bluff to Olele Point. Removes requirement that only single point hooks may be used.

Effective Date: Effective 11:59 p.m. Tuesday July 31, 2007.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet), except Edmonds Fishing Pier.

Reason for action: Estimates indicate that the hatchery Chinook quota will be harvested by the end of the day July 31.

Other information: All Chinook must now be released in Area 9, except at the Edmonds Fishing Pier. Area 9 remains open to salmon fishing for coho, pink, and sockeye. The area south of a line from Foulweather Bluff to Olele Point re-opens for coho, pink and sockeye salmon fishing. Single-point barbless hooks are no longer required. However, barbless hooks are still required. The Edmonds Fishing Pier is regulated under separate rules. Anglers should consult the Fishing in Washington, Sports Fishing Rules pamphlet for specific regulations for the Edmonds Fishing Pier.
