Chinook retention to reopen on the Columbia River

September 21, 2007

Action: Retention of Chinook salmon will be allowed on the Columbia River from the Hood River Bridge upstream to the Highway 395 Bridge in Pasco

Effective date: September 22 through December 31

Species affected: Chinook salmon

Location: Columbia River from the Hood River Bridge upstream to the Highway 395 Bridge in Pasco

Reason for action: The Upriver Bright fall Chinook run size has been upgraded from 105,000 to 115,000 fish. This upgrade in run size allows for additional opportunity in this area of the Columbia River. The area from Bonneville Dam to Hood River Bridge remains closed for Chinook retention to protect Spring Creek Hatchery Chinook.

Other Information: The area below Bonneville Dam will remain closed for Chinook retention at this time. The daily limit is six salmon of which no more than two can be adults. All sockeye and wild steelhead must be released. Release chum from The Dalles Dam downstream.
