Chinook salmon retention suspended in Marine Area 11

August 16, 2022

Action:  Suspends retention of Chinook salmon.

Effective date:  Aug. 17 through Sept. 30, 2022

Species affected: Chinook Salmon

Location:  Marine Area 11, except year-round piers (see additional information)

Salmon Rules:  No minimum size. Daily limit 2. Release Chinook and chum. Open seven days a week.

Reason for action:   The current estimate of Chinook harvest for the summer is 2,724 (97%) of the total harvest quota of 2,816 and 2,247 (67%) of the total sublegal encounter limit of 3,373 agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF).  The harvest quota for Chinook is nearly taken, suspending Chinook retention now will allow Coho retention to continue through the summer.

Additional information:  Year-round piers, (Des Moines Pier, Les Davis Pier, Point Defiance Boathouse dock, and Redondo Pier,) Remain open under rules listed in 2022/2023 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet.
