Columbia Park Pond fishing closure
for “Fishing Kids” event

Action: Closes Columbia Park Pond to fishing two days prior to the "Fishing Kids" youth fishing event, as well as the day of the event for the general public.

Effective dates:

April 30, 12:01 a.m. to May 2, 8:00 a.m. - Columbia Park Pond closed to all fishing

May 2 Columbia Park Pond open only to registered participants in the "Fishing Kids" event from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Species affected: All game fish

Location: Columbia Park Pond located within Columbia Park in Kennewick, WA

Reasons for action: This rule change is necessary to ensure a successful "Fishing Kids"event. Several thousand rainbow trout will be planted two days prior to the event to acclimate them to ensure they bite well while the kids are fishing. On the day of the event, only registered kids will be allowed to fish during the event.

Other information: The "Fishing Kids" event has been held at Columbia Park Pond for the past ten years. The event this year will bring in over 1,200 registered kids as well as their families, friends and general members of the public. Columbia Park Pond will reopen on May 2 at 4:00 p.m. to all juvenile anglers (under 15 years of age) and adults with disability licenses.
