Columbia River steelhead, jack chinook
sport fishery openers delayed


Action: The Columbia River from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to the I-5 Bridge will not open to steelhead and jack Chinook angling beginning May 16, 2008 as originally scheduled.

Effective date: May 16, 2008 through June 15, 2008.

Species affected: Steelhead and jack Chinook.

Location: Columbia River from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to the I-5 Bridge.

Reason for action: Modification to the mainstem steelhead sport fishery is necessary to provide additional protection to spring chinook destined for areas above Bonneville Dam.

Other information: The shad sport fishery will open as scheduled. Managers will continue to review stock status of the upriver spring chinook weekly and make changes as needed.
