sport fisheries openers delayed


Action 1 - Steelhead: The Columbia River from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to the I-5 Bridge will not open to steelhead angling beginning May 16, 2005 as originally scheduled.

Action 2 Shad: The Columbia River from the mouth to Bonneville Dam will not open to shad angling beginning May 16, 2005 as originally scheduled.

Effective date: May 16, 2005 until further notice.

Species affected: Steelhead and shad.

Location: Columbia River from the mouth to Bonneville Dam.

Reason for action: Modification to the mainstem steelhead and shad sport fisheries is necessary to provide additional protection to spring chinook destined for areas above Bonneville Dam.

Other information: Managers will continue to review stock status of spring chinook and meet weekly to make changes as needed.
