Deep River salmon and steelhead fisheries return to permanent rules

Action:  Returns salmon and hatchery steelhead seasons to permanent rules as listed in the 2022/23 Washington Sportfishing rules pamphlet.

Species affected:  Spring Chinook, hatchery steelhead

Effective date:  June 1, 2023, until further notice.

Location:  Deep River (Wahkiakum Co.)

Rules (as listed in rules pamphlet):

  •  Hatchery steelhead:  Min. size 20”. Daily limit 3.
  • Salmon:  Min. size 12”. Daily limit 6, including no more than 2 adults. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook and hatchery coho.

Reason for action:  The mainstem Columbia River recreational spring Chinook season closed June 1 through June 15.  Throughout the 2023 recreational spring Chinook season, the daily bag limits were aligned when the adjacent mainstem Columbia was open.
