Deep River spring Chinook fishing season updated

Action: Extends the spring Chinook season.

Species affected: Spring Chinook and hatchery steelhead.

Effective dates: May 17-19, May 25-27, and June 12-15, 2024.

Location: Deep River (Wahkiakum County).

Rules: Salmon and steelhead daily limit is six, and up to two adults may be retained of which no more than one may be an adult Chinook. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook. Release wild steelhead. Salmon minimum size is 12 inches.

Reason for action: Aligns the 2024 spring Chinook and steelhead daily limits in Deep River with the Columbia River consistent with the Compact Action on Feb. 21, April 4, April 9, and May 15, 2024. The fisheries were set within allowable catch levels for upriver spring Chinook and to minimize impacts to other stocks of concern.

Additional information: All other permanent regulations apply. Staff will monitor the fishery in-season and determine if additional fishing opportunity is warranted.

Information contact: Region 5 (Ridgefield Office), 360-696-6211.
