Deep River spring chinook sport fishery closed in concurrent waters

April 19, 2005

Action: Deep River (Wahkiakum County) is closed to salmon fishing downstream of the Highway 4 Bridge.

Effective date: April 21, 2005 until further notice.

Species affected: Chinook

Location: Deep River (Wahkiakum County) downstream of the Highway 4 Bridge.

Reason for action: Modification to the sport fishery is necessary to be consistent with conservation actions and closures in the mainstem Columbia River for spring chinook. Bonneville Dam counts of spring chinook are less than expected at this time. This action provides consistency with closure of the mainstem Columbia River and provides additional protection for upriver spring chinook that may stray into this lower area of the Deep River.

Other information: The area upstream of the Highway 4 Bridge remains open (see sportfishing rules pamphlet).

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on definitions and regulations.
