Drano Lake hatchery spring chinook limit rising,
but fishing will close two Wednesdays in June

Action: Up to four hatchery chinook may be retained. .

Species affected: Chinook

Effective dates: For daily limit, May 22 through June 30, 2010. All fishing will close Wednesdays, June 2 and June 9.

Location: Drano Lake downstream of markers on point of land downstream and across from Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery and upstream of Hwy. 14 Bridge.

Daily limits: The salmonid daily limit will be four fish. Up to 2 may be hatchery steelhead. Release wild chinook and wild steelhead. Release all trout other than steelhead. Minimum size 12 inches for salmon and 20 inches for steelhead.

Other information: Hatchery jack chinook count as part of the salmon daily limit.

Under previously adopted emergency regulations, the bank-fishing only area near the outlet of Drano Lake is in effect through June. In addition, the anti-snagging rule has been rescinded for this year's spring chinook fishery.

Reason for action: As of May 19, a total of 3,798 fish had returned to Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery. Nearly 3,000 of those fish returned within the past few days. The hatchery escapement goal is 1,000 fish. Surplus hatchery fish are available for harvest.

The two Wednesday closures in June are necessary for the Yakama tribal fisheries scheduled to occur on those dates.
