March 14, 2005
Action: The Klickitat River will open for spring chinook and hatchery steelhead beginning April 1 with increased opportunities.
Effective dates and locations:
· From mouth to Fisher Hill Bridge April 1 through May 31 open Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays only.
· From 400 feet upstream from #5 fishway to boundary markers below Klickitat Salmon Hatchery May 1 through May 31 open seven days per week.
Species affected: Chinook and hatchery steelhead.
Reason for action: An increased run size expected in 2005 allows for expanded fishing opportunity. Allows fishery to target surplus hatchery spring chinook returning to Klickitat Hatchery.
Other information: The daily limit is a total of two salmon or hatchery steelhead. The minimum size is 12 inches for salmon and 20 inches for steelhead. Night closure and non-buoyant lure restriction in effect May 1 through May 31 in both sections listed above.
Chinook with or without a clipped adipose fin may be retained. Steelhead must have a missing adipose fin or ventral fin to be retained. Wild steelhead must be released.
