Expands shoreline-only fishery in Marine Area 9

August 2, 2017

Action: Expands the area that anglers can fish for salmon from the shore near Port Gamble in Marine Area 9.

Effective Date: Immediately through 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, 2017.

Species affected: Coho and pink salmon.

Location: From Teekalet Bluff to Salsbury Point County Park in Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet Area).

Reason for action: This section of shoreline was previously part of the Port Gamble closure area, which has been modified to include waters south of a line from Northeast Cliffside Road to Teekalet Bluff. Fishing from shoreline is now permitted from Teekalet Bluff to Salsbury Point County Park. This action allows additional fishing opportunities while still meeting conservation objectives for stocks of concern.

Other information: The daily limit is 2 salmon; chum, chinook and wild coho must be released. Shoreline fishing only; fishing for salmon from a floating device is prohibited.

Anglers are reminded that walking or wading onto private property or tidelands without permission is considered criminal trespass.

For specific regulations, anglers should consult the 2017-18 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet available online at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/regulations/.
