Fishing closure extension on the San Poil Arm of Lake Roosevelt

December 10, 2004

Fishing Closure extension on the San Poil Arm of
Lake Roosevelt

Action: Begin the seasonal fishing closure on the San Poil Arm of Lake Roosevelt one month earlier. Fishing for all game fish from the outlet of French Johns Lake on the San Poil Arm upstream will be closed beginning January 1, 2005.

Effective date: January 1, 2005 to January 31, 2005.

Species affected: All game fish species

Location: The San Poil Arm of Lake Roosevelt is located approximately 20 miles upriver from Grand Coulee Dam. The San Poil arm is an enlargement of the San Poil River, a result of the construction of Grand Coulee Dam and impoundment of the Columbia River.

Reason for action: Native redband rainbow trout enter this area in January prior to spawning in San Poil River. This earlier closure is to protect those fish from harvest to allow for adequate fish escapement into the San Poil River.

Other information: This emergency action will extend an existing seasonal closure on the San Poil River (February 1through May 31) by one month, beginning January 1. For additional fishing regulation information on the San Poil Arm refer to Roosevelt Lake in the Eastside Lakes section of the current edition of Fishing in Washington rules pamphlet.
