July 30, 2004
Date: July 30, 2004
Gobar Creek on Kalama River closes
August 1 for all steelhead retention
Action: Beginning August 1, all steelhead caught in Gobar Creek must be released.
Effective dates: August 1, 2004, until further notice.
Species affected: Steelhead and trout
Location: Gobar Creek
Reason for action: The retention closure is intended to protect hatchery steelhead that are part of a special wild broodstock research program from harvest in the upper Kalama basin. The research will compare the reproductive success of the wild-broodstock hatchery fish to that of their wild-reared counterparts, when both spawn naturally in the upper Kalama River and its tributaries. The hatchery fish can still be harvested in the lower Kalama River.
Other information: Catch-and-release fishing is allowed for trout including all steelhead but none may be retained. Regulations for other game fish will remain the same as listed in the WDFW sportfishing rules pamphlet.
