Grays River to open for hatchery
spring chinook beginning May 20
Action: The Grays River will open to fishing for hatchery spring chinook beginning Thursday, May 20.
Effective Dates: May 20 through July 31, 2004.
Species affected: Hatchery chinook salmon.
Location: Grays River from the mouth to South Fork, and West Fork Grays River from the mouth to hatchery intake/footbridge.
Reason for action: Adult spring chinook straying from Select Area Fishery Evaluation sites are entering the Grays River. These fish are not needed for brood stock.
Other information: The daily limit is six hatchery salmon, no more than two of which may be adults. Wild chinook must be released unharmed. Minimum size is 12 inches. This regulation change is for salmon only. Regulations for other species, including steelhead, remain as on page 38 of the 2004-05 WDFW fishing rules pamphlet.
