Species affected: Chinook salmon and steelhead
Effective dates: June 1, 2008 through July 31, 2008
Location: Mainstem Grays River from mouth to South Fork
West Fork Grays River from the mouth to the hatchery intake/footbridge.
Daily limits: Daily limit is six hatchery spring chinook of which no more than two may be adults. Minimum size 12 inches. Wild Chinook must be released. In addition, 2 hatchery steelhead may be retained. Minimum size 20 inches. Wild steelhead and all trout other than hatchery steelhead must be released.
Reason for action: Some spring chinook, possible strays from the nearby Select Area Fishery Evaluation sites, have been observed in the system. These fish are not needed for broodstock. In addition, there may be stray hatchery summer run steelhead available for harvest.
