Green River (Cowlitz County) reopens to fishing below Toutle Hatchery

October 25, 2022

Action: Reopens fishing seasons as listed in the 2022-23 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet.

Effective date: Oct. 26, 2022.

Species affected:  All species.

Location: Green River (Cowlitz Co.), from the mouth to the posted markers below the N.F. Toutle Hatchery rack.

Reason for action: Broodstock collection at the North Toutle hatchery has improved and is expected to meet broodstock needs. Previous low water conditions in the Green River have improved to acceptable levels in the reach from the mouth to the hatchery, allowing for improved spawning activity and fish movement upstream. Now that broodstock needs are being met, and river conditions have improved, returning fisheries in this reach to permanent rules is justified.

Additional information:  Anglers can be notified of in-season rule changes as they are announced by signing up for WDFW Regulation Updates at wdfw.wa.gov/about/lists.

Information contact:  Josua Holowatz, District Fish Biologist, 360-906-6771.
