Hanford Reach salmon season adds summer Chinook opportunity

July 1, 2020

Action: Opens for Chinook retention.

Effective date: July 4 through July 31, 2020.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Columbia River, from the I-182 Bridge to Priest Rapids Dam.

Rules: Daily limit 2. Release coho and wild adult Chinook. Min. size 12".

Reason for action: The Columbia River summer Chinook run is tracking above the expected return. The U.S. v Oregon Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) updated the summer Chinook run from a pre-season value of 38,000 to 65,000, allowing for summer Chinook retention in the area.

Additional information: Steelhead fishing remains closed in this area. All steelhead must be released.

Hwy. 395 Bridge to I-182 Bridge is closed to fishing for salmon and steelhead.

Fishery managers will continue to monitor the fishery to ensure that conservation goals are achieved.

This Fishing Rule Change has been updated (July 8, 2020), in order to correct the daily limit to 2 fish.
