Hatchery adult coho daily limit
increased on the Cowlitz River
Action: Anglers may keep up to 6 hatchery adult coho as part of their salmon daily limit on the lower Cowlitz River.
Species affected: Coho salmon
Effective dates: Aug. 1, 2011, until further notice.
Location: Cowlitz River from boundary markers at mouth to 400 feet below Mayfield Dam Powerhouse.
Reason for action: Hatchery coho returns this fall to the Cowlitz River are expected to be well above escapement goals. The bonus hatchery coho daily limit had been approved at this year's North of Falcon process. However, the 2011/2012 Fishing in Washington pamphlet lists the daily limit as 6 fish of which no more than 2 may be adults. This Fishing Rule Change corrects the error in the pamphlet.
Other information: The salmon daily limit is 6 fish of which only 2 may be adult chinook. Only hatchery chinook and hatchery coho may be retained.
Closed waters and night closure, anti-snagging rule, boat and access restrictions remain the same as listed in the 2011-2012 Fishing in Washington pamphlet.
