Hatchery steelhead daily limit to
increase on Washougal River

Action: Anglers fishing from the Mt. Norway Bridge downstream may retain up to three hatchery steelhead beginning Saturday May 22; from the Mt. Norway Bridge upstream and in the West (North) Fork beginning June 5.

Species affected: Steelhead

Effective dates by location:

Mainstem Washougal River from mouth to the Mt. Norway Bridge at Vernon Road: Effective May 22 through Oct. 31, 2010;

Mainstem Washougal River from Mt. Norway Bridge to Salmon Falls Bridge: Effective June 5 through Oct. 31, 2010;

West (North) Fork Washougal River from intake at Skamania Hatchery upstream: Effective June 5 through Oct. 31, 2010.

Reason for action: There has been strong showing of hatchery summer run steelhead on the Washougal to date. Through May 19, a total of 357 hatchery summer run steelhead had returned to Skamania Hatchery.

Other information: All trout, except hatchery steelhead, must be released.

The mainstem Washougal from the mouth to Mt. Norway Bridge, selective gear rules remain in effect through June 4.
