Heart Lake to close for kids’ fishing event
Action: Closes Heart Lake (Skagit County) to all fishing except to youths (under 15 years old) on June 2, the day of a kids' fishing event.
Effective dates: May 30 through June 2, 2018, the entire lake is closed to public fishing. However, the lake is open for anglers 14 years and younger participating in the kids’ fishing event June 2 from 7 a.m. through 12:01 p.m. Juvenile anglers may continue to fish the remainder of the day following the kids’ fishing event.
Species affected: All gamefish.
Location: Heart Lake, located within the city limits of Anacortes.
Reasons for action: This rule change is necessary to ensure a successful kids' fishing event. The fish will be planted in the lake three days prior to the event to better acclimate them. On the day of the event only children 14 years of age or less will be allowed to fish in the lake.
Other information: The Kids Fishing event is sponsored by the City of Anacortes Parks and Recreation, and the Fidalgo-San Juan Chapter of the Puget Sound Anglers, and has been held for the past 20 years. The event offers children, who would otherwise not get the chance, an opportunity to participate and learn about fishing. For information on how you can participate, please contact Nicole Johnston, city of Anacortes Parks and Recreation at (360) 293-1918.
Information contact: Brett Barkdull, 360-466-4345, ext. 270 or barkdbcb@dfw.wa.gov.
