Heart Lake fishing closure for Kids fishing event

Action: Closes Heart Lake to fishing by the public.

Effective dates:
June 4 - 12:01 a.m., entire lake closed to public fishing

June 7 - Lake closed until 12:01 a.m., except the lake is open
for anglers participating in the Fishing Kids event June 6 from
6:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m.

The lake will remain open to juvenile anglers after the event
closes.

Species affected: All gamefish.

Location: Heart Lake, located within the city limits of Anacortes in Skagit County

Reasons for action: This rule change is necessary to assure a successful Fishing Kids event. The fish will be planted in the lake two days prior to the event to better acclimate them. On the day of the event only children 14 years of age or less will be allowed to fish in the lake.

Other information: The Fishing Kids event is sponsored by the City of Anacortes Parks and Recreation, and the Fidalgo Chapter of the Puget Sound Anglers, and has been held for the past seven years. The event offers children an opportunity to participate and learn about fishing who would otherwise not get the chance. For all participants a free barbeque will be provided. For information on how you can participate, please contact Gary Robinson, city of Anacortes Parks and Recreation at (360) 293-1900, or Karl Frantz, Puget Sound Anglers, at (360) 293-5096.
