Hood canal gets two more days for recreational shrimp fishing

August 15, 2018

Action: Marine Area 12 (Hood Canal) is currently closed to recreational shrimp harvesting. This opens Marine Area 12 for two more days of recreational harvest. The daily limit will also be increased from 80 shrimp per person per day to 100 shrimp per person per day for the dates below only.

Effective date: Aug. 21, 2018 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Aug. 22, 2018 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Species affected: All shrimp species including spot shrimp.

Location: Marine Area 12.

Reason for action: The target share for recreational spot shrimp has not been taken in Hood Canal. WDFW will open two additional days of fishing to take the remaining State share of spot shrimp in Hood Canal.

Additional information: Only Marine Areas 4 (east of the Bonilla-Tatoosh line) and 5 remain open for spot shrimp fishing. Several other marine areas are open for coonstripe and pink shrimp fishing. Check WDFW’s website at https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/shrimp/ for more information.
