September 9, 2011

Closure of Kendall Slough, North Fork
Nooksack River

Action: Close Kendall Slough to all fishing

Effective dates: Sept. 12 through Sept. 30, 2011

Species affected: All Species of Fish

Location: Kendall Slough, on the North Fork Nooksack River, from the mouth of Kendall Creek (Kendall Creek Hatchery outlet) to the markers at the mouth of Kendall Slough.

Reasons for action: A high percentage of Endangered Species Act listed spawning spring chinook are being impacted by anglers that are trout fishing. There is evidence of very high pre-spawn mortality rates due to the associated handling.

Other information: On Oct. 1, 2011, regulations will revert back to permanent rules in effect as listed in the 2011/2012 Fishing in Washington, sport fishing rules pamphlet.
