Action: Lake Scanewa (Cowlitz Falls Reservoir) opens to fishing for hatchery spring chinook beginning Saturday, May 15.
Effective Dates: May 15 through May 31, 2004 (permanent regulations keep the fishery open beginning June 1 - see sport fishing rules pamphlet).
Species affected: Chinook salmon
Location: Lake Scanewa (Cowlitz Falls Reservoir) from Cowlitz Falls Dam to the listed boundaries in the Cispus and Cowlitz rivers arms (see sport fishing rules pamphlet).
Reason for action: Through May 11, nearly 2,500 spring chinook have been trucked to Lake Scanewa for sport fishing opportunity and re-introduction efforts.
Other information: The daily limit is 6 hatchery salmon, no more than 2 may be adults. Wild CHINOOK must be released. Minimum size is 8 inches. Lake Scanewa will revert to permanent fishing regulations beginning June 1, 2004. The permanent regulations continue the fishery for hatchery chinook through July 31 and the seasons for trout and other game fish open beginning June 1.
The Cispus River (excluding the North Fork) and Upper Cowlitz River (from posted PUD sign on Peters Road to the mouth of Ohanepecosh & Muddy Fork) salmon seasons are open year round.
