Lower portion of the White Salmon River to
reopen to fishing for hatchery steelhead
Action: White Salmon River up to the county bridge below the powerhouse will reopen to fishing for hatchery steelhead.
Species affected: Hatchery steelhead
Effective dates: Jan.18, 2012 until further notice
Location: White Salmon River from mouth to county bridge below the powerhouse.
Other information: The fishing boundary buoys at the mouth are no longer in place; therefore the mouth of the White Salmon River is defined as "outermost uplands not covered by ordinary high water."
The daily limit is two hatchery steelhead. All other species, including salmon, must be released.
The White Salmon River from the county bridge below the powerhouse upstream (including the area formerly known as Northwestern Reservoir) remains closed to fishing until further notice.
Reason for action: Condit Dam on the White Salmon River was breached on Oct. 26, 2011. The river had been closed to sport fishing due to the unstable river conditions as a result of this action. River conditions have stabilized enough to allow sport fishing to reopen below the powerhouse. Returning hatchery steelhead, both winter and summer run, are available for sport harvest.
