June 20, 2024
Updated June 21 to clarify this Fishing Rule Change does not affect year-round piers.
Action: Opens salmon fishing season seven days per week and allows 2 hatchery Chinook be retained in the daily limit.
Effective date: June 21 through June 30, 2024.
Species affected: Salmon
Location: Marine Area 11, except year-round piers (Des Moines Pier, Les Davis Pier, Point defiance Boathouse Dock, and Redondo Pier).
Rules: Salmon open daily through June 30. Daily limit 2. Chinook min. size 22”. All other salmon species, no min. size. Release chum and wild Chinook.
Commencement Bay (east of a line from Cliff House Restaurant to Sperry Ocean Dock) is Closed to fishing for or retention of salmon.
Reason for action: Catch estimates for the Marine Area 11 June Chinook fishery indicate the fishery has reached 30% of the harvest quota (425 of 1,423), 13% of the unmarked encounter limit (122 of 910) and 2% of sublegal encounter limit (41 of 2,608), through June 15. Based on estimates to date, sufficient catch and encounters remain under fishery guidelines for additional days of fishing to be added to the June Chinook season, and to allow retention of more than one Chinook per day.
Additional information: Season may be adjusted or closed if catch or encounters approach allowable limits. Area 11 will be closed to salmon fishing from July 1-17. Beginning July 1, 2024, this fishing season will be listed in the new 2024/2025 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet.
