Modifies temporary selective gear rule in the Quillayute River system

October 22, 2008

Action: Modifies the selective gear requirement in the Quillayute River System to allow fishing from boats equipped with internal combustion engines.

Effective dates: Immediately through Oct. 31, 2008.

Species affected: Chinook and coho

Location: Waters within the Quillayute River system, including the Quillayute, Sol Duc, Bogachiel, Calawah and Dickey Rivers, where salmon retention is allowed.

Reasons for action: Implementing selective gear rules for these areas of the Quillayute River system was for the purpose of facilitating the release of wild coho and was not intended to preclude fishing from motorized boats.
