New ‘Closed Waters’ area to take effect around seasonal hatchery weir on the Elochoman River

September 25, 2024

Action: Closes all fishing between markers located approximately 200 feet above and below the tributary weir located on the Elochoman River at Beaver Creek hatchery, while the rack is installed in the river.

Effective date: Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, 2024.

Species affected: All species.

Location: Elochoman River from a set of markers about 200 feet above the temporary rack at Beaver Creek Hatchery, to a set of markers about 200 feet below the temporary rack.

Reason for action: Installation and operation of the Beaver Creek hatchery weir is needed to support broodstock collection for hatchery programs and to minimize the number of hatchery origin spawners in the Elochoman River.

Additional information: The Beaver Creek hatchery weir is expected to be installed on Oct. 1 and is expected to operate through Dec. 31. However, actual dates of weir installation and removal may vary due to seasonal precipitation and tributary discharge levels. Anglers can find updates on the installation status of southwest Washington tributary weirs by visiting the ‘Fishing tips and news’ section of the WDFW Region 5 webpage.
