Portions of the Grays River to open
early for hatchery steelhead

Action: The mainstem Grays River from the Hwy. 4 Bridge upstream and the West Fork will open early to fishing for hatchery steelhead.

Species affected: Steelhead

Effective dates: Dec. 6, 2008 through March 15, 2009

Location:

Mainstem Grays River from Hwy. 4 Bridge upstream to South Fork

West Fork Grays River from the mouth to the hatchery intake/footbridge.

Daily limits: Daily limit is 2 hatchery steelhead. Wild steelhead must be released. All other game fish and salmon must also be released.

Reason for action: Based upon field observations, salmon have largely finished spawning. Hatchery winter run steelhead are available for harvest.

These areas had been scheduled to open to fishing for hatchery steelhead beginning Dec. 15. The mainstem Grays River from the Hwy. 4 Bridge downstream opened in mid November under permanent rules.
