Quillayute and Sol Duc rivers open May 1 with two salmon limit

April 16, 2025

Action: Reduces salmon daily limit to two fish.

Effective dates: May 1 through June 30, 2025.

Species affected: Salmon.

Locations:

  • Quillayute River (Clallam County), from Olympic National Park boundary upstream to confluence of Sol Duc and Bogachiel rivers.
  • Sol Duc River (Clallam County), from the mouth to the concrete pump station at the Sol Duc Hatchery.

Salmon rules: Minimum size 12 inches. Daily limit two. Release wild adult Chinook, wild adult coho and sockeye.

Reason for action: This emergency rule is needed to meet harvest management plan agreements with co-managers resulting from the 2025 North of Falcon pre-season fishery planning process. There is a conservation concern for wild summer Chinook and wild summer coho. This rule will reduce overall encounters and release mortalities associated with them. There is insufficient time to adopt permanent rules.

Additional information: Permanent rules in effect include only one single point barbless hook may be used for all species.

Fishery managers encourage anglers to sign up for Fishing Rule Change email notifications and to check for emergency rules on the WDFW website prior to fishing. Refer to the 2024-25 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for fishing rules.
