Action: The recreational non-spot shrimp season will open on June 20th in Marine Area 7 East and remain open until further notice.
Effective date: June 20, 2021
Species affected: Non-spot shrimp species which include coonstripe, dock, pink, and sidestripe shrimp.
Location: Marine Area 7 East
Reason for action: To harvest recreational non-spot shrimp consistent with State/Tribal management agreements.
Additional information:
A maximum depth restriction of 200 feet applies to this non-spot shrimp fishery in Marine Area 7 East to avoid handling spot shrimp. Harvest will be limited to non-spot shrimp in waters less than or equal to 200 feet deep. All spot shrimp caught during this non-spot shrimp fishery must be immediately returned to the water unharmed. Pots with a minimum mesh size of 1/2 inch will be allowed during this fishery.
Other Marine Areas already open for recreational non-spot shrimping include 8-1, 8-2, 9, 11, and 13. Maximum depth restrictions apply which differ slightly by Marine Area. All spot shrimp caught during these non-spot shrimp fisheries must be immediately returned to the water unharmed. Pots with a minimum mesh size of 1/2 inch are allowed are allowed during these fisheries.
Some Marine Areas remain open for recreational spot shrimp harvesting. Marine Area 5 remains open until further notice. Marine Areas 6, 7 East, and 7 West remain open through June 19, 2021.
