Action: Recreational shrimp fishing will re-open for one additional day, Wednesday, May 25, in Marine Areas 8-1, 8-2, 11, the Discovery Bay Shrimp District and a portion of Marine Area 10 (open west of a line from West Point to Alki Point). The Hood Canal Shrimp District will be open for one additional day on Wednesday, June 8.
Effective dates: May 25, 2011 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for the areas outside of Hood Canal listed above, and June 8, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for the Hood Canal Shrimp District.
Species affected: All shrimp.
Location: Marine Areas 8-1, 8-2, 11, the Discovery Bay Shrimp District, the Hood Canal Shrimp District and the portion of Marine Area 10 west of a line from West Point to Alki Point - Elliott Bay will remain closed.
Reason for action: Sufficient recreational spot shrimp quota remains in these areas for one more day of fishing.
Other information: On June 1, Marine Areas 8-1, 8-2, 9 and 11 will re-open for recreational coonstripe and pink shrimp fishing, with a 150 foot maximum fishing depth restriction. The north/central portion of Marine Area 7 (see the WDFW webpage for boundary description) will also reopen for recreational coonstripe and pink shrimp fishing, with a 200 foot maximum fishing depth restriction. Marine Area 13 will be closing to spot shrimp fishing on May 31, but remain open for coonstripe and pink shrimp fishing on June 1. All spot shrimp caught must be immediately returned to the water.
