Salmon Fishing Suspended in South Puget Sound (Marine Area 13)

August 26, 2022

Action: Closes salmon fishing.

Effective date: Aug. 29, 2022, until further notice.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Marine Area 13 (South Puget Sound), except Fox Island Public Fishing Pier.

Reason for action: Expected catches in both recreational and tribal fisheries are below pre-season expectation to date, indicating that returns may be coming in below pre-season forecasts. The recreational Marine Area salmon fishery will be paused until further notice to further evaluate Chinook returns to South Sound to ensure natural escapement and brood stock goals are met. This fishery may reopen if further information suggests such an action is warranted.

Additional information: Anglers can be notified of any in-season rule changes as they are announced by signing up for WDFW Regulation Updates at wdfw.wa.gov/about/lists.
